Pembroke Hall beat UWI in Women’s TT
TWO-TIME defending champions Pembroke Hall defeated former champions University of the West Indies (UWI) 3-1 in a Women’s match on Wednesday night, as the JTTA National Table Tennis Club League continued.
The match was played in the UWI Students’ Union Hall and the victory takes Pembroke Hall’s record to two wins from as many matches.
In individual results, national champion Yvonne Foster won two singles matches for Pembroke Hall, overpowering Shantal Bailey, 11-6, 11-7, 11-2 (3-0), and Carla Clarke, 11-2, 11-3, 11-5 (3-0). In doubles action, Davia Green and Alecia Bennett pipped Bailey and Clarke, 10-12, 11-8, 12-10, 7-11, 11-8 (3-2), for Pembroke Hall’s third win.
Shenique Clare pulled one back for UWI, easing past Bennett, 11-8, 11-5, 11-4 (3-0).
Pembroke Hall are coached by Richardo Lee while UWI are coached by Sandra Riettie.
Matches scheduled for yesterday were postponed due to the unfavourable weather conditions expected from Tropical Storm Tomas.
Play in the league will resume when the weather permits. Division 4 matches are scheduled for this evening at 7:00 and Division 1 matches for 2:00 pm tomorrow.
