Fun In The Son returns as three-day festival
THIS year’s Best Dressed Fun In The Son free concert is slated to rock the Kingston and St Andrew area with non-stop musical excitement from Thursday, March 17 – Saturday, March 19.
Best Dressed Fun In The Son, which was constructed to be a Spring Break alternative for young Christians, has garnered a reputation as a well-executed family production, attracting thousands annually. The festival, which will span several days of exemplary fun, begins with Word and Worship at Jamaica College on March 15 and 17, continues with Gospel Jazz at Red Bones on Thursday, March 17, a gospel party dubbed Metamorphosis on Friday, March 18 then ends with the grand concert on Saturday, March 19 at the UWI, Mona Bowl.
“Our one-week line-up of events will have something for everyone. We have created a gospel jazz night where persons can encounter the perfect hybrid of jazz and gospel. So it’s not only something for gospel lovers, but it’s also the perfect spot for jazz lovers. That night will feature some of the biggest jazz performers, Dennis Rushton, Ian Hird, Andrae Campbell, Desi Jones, Symour Heron and many more,” says Tommy Cowan of Glory Music, organisers of the event.
Shikisha Cowan, Best Dressed Fun In The Son’s event coordinator, said: “Our other night, Metamorphosis, will be a party. That will be staged the night before the concert, so those who are familiar with ‘praise parties’ will know what to expect. For those who have never experienced it, it’s non-stop fun and fellowship. So we’re inviting everyone out on all the nights for great wholesome, family-oriented entertainment.”
For this year’s grand concert on March 19, the organisers have once again contracted some of the biggest names in gospel music so patrons can enjoy twelve hours of wholesome fun.
The artistes on this year’s concert range from the energetic international artiste, Tye Tribbett, known for Fresh, Keep Me, Stand Out, He Has Made Me Glad; Papa San, Carlene Davis, Prodigal Son, Kevin Downswell, Judith Gayle and more.
The launching pad for the event will take place at Church On The Rock, off Mannings Hill Road, at 7:00 pm this Thursday.
