Did your life turn out the way you planned?
When do things ever go according to plan, especially when it comes to love and relationships? Fact is, life can throw you an unexpected curve ball, and the plans you had on entering a relationship quickly change with time.
Below, readers share just how different their love lives are from initial expectations.
Andrea, 30:
We met and fell in love when we were both going to university. The intention was to graduate and then get married. A lot happened along the way — we had to pay off student loans and so our plans to get married and start a life together got put to the bottom of the list. We are still together and still hopeful of one day starting a family together.
Safiya, 34:
After my bachelor’s, my intention was that a husband and children would soon follow — you know just like every girl dreams, it would happen. However, now I’m in the doctorate programme and let’s just say that I haven’t met Mr Right yet.
Tina, 32:
My boyfriend migrated first and I was supposed to join him as soon as he got himself settled. That was our plan. But he got distant until it came to the point where we broke up. Every now and again I will visit his Facebook page to see what he is up to. Let’s just say that he has clearly moved on.
Diana, 42:
When I got married, my intention was for my husband and I to stay married until the Lord decided to take us home. That wasn’t to be. We ended up getting a divorce due to some ‘irreconcilable differences’. Take it from me, life is unexpected and the way you hope things will turn out won’t necessarily work. Sometimes you have to know when to stop and count your losses and move on with life.
Samantha, 46:
My husband and I wanted two children. We now have four. Don’t ask me how this happened. Not that we mind having more children it’s just that wow, life can be so unexpected!
Denise, 56:
My husband is older than I am and so naturally we expected that he would be the first one to get sick when it was close to our time to go. Turns out that I was the one who got sick first. Thank goodness he stuck with me all this time. He was by my bedside night and day, he and the children. With life you can never know, so prepare for anything.
