Carla Hollingsworth — Catering to the curvaceous woman’s needs
A few years back, a frustrated Carla Hollingsworth had to resort to buying swimsuits from overseas, as she couldn’t find anything on the local market.
“I tried to purchase swimsuits from local designers and I could never find any that fit my curves,” she explained, adding that it appeared designers didn’t think curvy women went to the beach.
Her personal experience served as the impetus for the creation of her very own swimsuit line, CALA — Creatively Accentuating Lovely Assets.
“Out of sheer frustration and wanting to serve our naturally curvaceous women, I decided to create my own line that would cater to females with curves,” she said.
CALA’s swimsuit line offers figure-hugging one-of-a-kind pieces guaranteed to not only provide support in the places which need it most, but accentuate assets.
Currently the export marketing manager at Pepsi Cola Jamaica, Hollingsworth found that her background gave her enough know-how to start her business in February of this year.
The 31-year-old has a bachelor’s in communication and dance and a master’s in global marketing communication and advertising.
“The designs for my pieces come to me like a dream and to be honest, my creative juices are always flowing,” she explained.
With a new collection of swimsuits expected to be out soon, she said she expects that in a few years’ time her designs will be international.
“Each collection is guaranteed to explore more and more cutting-edge styles. Women of all sizes can finally feel more beautiful in their own skin,” she said.
“The only obstacle I have had thus far is balancing my time between my family and career, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and my passion to design and produce new swimsuits. Luckily I enjoy all aspects and I am excited to push on through whatever challenge may come.”
