Two changes as U-17 Boyz face El Salvador in must-win game
PANAMA CITY, Panama — Jamaica’s Young Reggae Boyz have made two changes to their starting line-up for Wednesday’s must-win match against El Salvador in the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship at the Estadio Maracana.
Match time is 3:00 pm, same as Jamaica. From the starting team that crashed to the USA 0-5 on Sunday in the opening matches of Group C, coach Andrew Edwards has kept faith with nine players.Left-back Damani Osei has given way to Calwayne Allen in that position, while striker Ricardo McIntosh starts the contest in place of the injured Raewin Senior. The other starters are captain Tajay Griffiths in goal, with Jamoi Topey and Kimani Gibbons in central defence, while Shane Ricketts will play at right back. Midfield duties go to Coby Atkinson, Jeremy Verley, Akeem Mullings and Jermaine Lyons, while Kaheem Parris will partner McIntosh upfront in what appears to be a 4-4-2 formation.Jamaica must defeat El Salvador to revive their hopes of making it to the next stage of the competition. A defeat today of any of these teams will effectively end their campaign. In the top-of-the-table clash of the group at 5:30 pm, unbeaten USA and Mexico will seek to virtually assure themselves of progression at the expense of each other.Mexico come into the encounter with three points after blowing away El Salvador 6-0 on Sunday, while the Americans, also with three points, trail after their blowout of Jamaica.Jamaica, third on goal difference, are without a point, so too El Salvador who are last in the standing by goal difference.Sean Williams
