Beechwood Ave pump attendant foils robbery attempt
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A female pump attendant is being hailed as a hero by her colleagues after four men attempted to rob the Johnson’s gas station on Beechwood Avenue in St Andrew earlier tonight.
Witnesses told OBSERVER ONLINE that the men, on two motorcycles rode to the service station sometime after 7:00 o’clock.
Two of them were there for over 30 minutes attempting to divert traffic and circling the facility.
Eyewitnesses said the two aroused the suspicion of some customers.
“It seems as if they were watching to see which attendant have the most money,” one eyewitness commented.
The eye witness said that after the first two apparently decided which attendant to rob, they went to the pump and ordered gasoline while their cronies rode up and one of them attempted to rob the attendant.
The attendant refused to give up the cash and instead fought off the robber, the eyewitness said.
“I was not holding on to it (cash) because I was in fear of losing the money. It was just the way he grabbed onto my hand,” the attendant told OBSERVER ONLINE.
“Him even hold on pon mi neck,” she disclosed, adding that a customer, who is believed to be a licensed firearm holder, saw what was happening and fired several shots into the air.
“Him no shoot afta him directly, him shoot inna the air but them see the gun and run,” said another eyewitness.
