High-powered rifle among three firearms seized in separate incidents
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A high-powered rifle is among three firearms and several rounds of ammunition seized by the police in separate incidents, following operational activities across the island between Tuesday and this morning.
In the first incident on Tuesday, lawmen in the Green Island area of Hanover seized a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol with a magazine containing seven 9mm rounds of ammunition. The weapon was found about 5:45 pm, during the search of a premises in the Winchester Housing Scheme in the parish. No arrest was made.
On Wednesday, a Colt M16 assault rifle was seized about 5:18 pm during a joint police/military operation on Hazard Drive in May Pen, Clarendon. Reports are that a premises was searched and the weapon, along with $11,000, was found in a bedroom. One man was arrested in connection with this find.
Then the Hunts Bay police were on mobile patrol on West Avenue, Kingston 13 about 1:30 this morning, when they arrived at a party that was in session.
On seeing the police it is alleged that one male patron ran but was apprehended by the lawmen and a 9mm pistol with a magazine containing three rounds of ammunition taken from him. He was subsequently arrested.
Investigations are ongoing.
