Cop fined $600,000 for 2014 beating
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A police constable was last week fined $600,000 for the 2014 beating of a taxi man while he was being taken to the Mandeville Police Station following his arrest.
According to a release from the Independent Commission of Jamaica (INDECOM), Jerome Graham, who had been convicted for inflicting grievous bodily harm last September, is bound over with a surety in the amount of $1,000,000 and given one month (by 3:00 pm on or before February 2) to pay the fine.
INDECOM added that if he fails to pay the sum, he will serve four months in custody at hard labour.
INDECOM arrested Graham on April 29, 2015 after it was alleged that taxi driver, Chester Daley, was knocked unconscious by him and subsequently lost significant brain function.
