Boyne was ‘in a class by himself’ — Holness
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness says Ian Boyne was in a class by himself.
Speaking in his tribute to Boyne, at the funeral for the late veteran journalist a short while ago, Holness described him as “a man who approached his work with sharp analytical and intellectual rigour”.
The prime minister said Boyne was a man who could speak truth to power and joked that he was the only civil servant who could publicly criticise the Government for which he worked and get away with it.
Holness hailed the work of Boyne, noting that several prime ministers, including Bruce Golding, Portia Simpson Miller and himself, would have to rely on Boyne’s advice.
Boyne, who was deputy chief executive officer of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), was described by Holness as leaving a legacy that we must all commit to upholding.
The celebration of his life is being held today at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
His body will be interred at the Dovecot Memorial Park in St Catherine.
