Clarendon College student stabbed to death
CLARENDON, Jamaica — Eighteen-year-old Avinash Gordon, an upper 6th form student of Clarendon College, was this morning stabbed to death at her home in the parish.
Preliminary reports from the police are that members of the student’s household heard her screaming about 2:15 am and went to investigate. She was found with multiple stabs wounds.
Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid this afternoon expressed sadness at the killing of Gordon.
Reid, in a release this afternoon, said it is indeed a challenging moment for the school community of Clarendon College, as Avinash was a student of great promise, who was well-liked by her peers and teachers.
The minister has urged the country to return the practices of protecting children and looking out for each other.
The school’s principal David Wilson characterised Avinash as a polite, jovial and cordial young lady who was always involved in school activities.
He noted that her peers had to be counselled this morning after hearing the tragic news of her death.
Her death comes two weeks after the killing of another teen in St James.
