ST MARY, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) says it is currently carrying out temporary restorative work on an approach road to the Tiber River Bridge in St Mary.

The NWA in a release today explained that this was due to a section of the bridge’s southern approach failing because of heavy rainfall and as such, motorists are unable to access the Bridge at this time.

Manager, communication and customer services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw said the bridge itself is still structurally sound and while works continue to restore access, the NWA cannot say with any certainty when use of the bridge will resume.

He added that while the works continue, motorists travelling from Port Maria to Gayle are being advised to use the Rio Nuevo to Lamkin Hill roadway. The reverse obtains for those travelling to Gayle from the direction of Port Maria.

Motorists seeking to access the communities of Dressikie or Hunts Town from the direction of Gayle are being advised to use the road from Windsor Castle to Carren Hall then onto Derry and Marlie Road.

In the meantime, the agency added that a number of roadways in Trelawny have been impacted by weekend rains.

The Duncans to Clarks Town roadway is impassable in the vicinity of the Long Pond Sugar Factory while sections of the Rock to Stewart Town and Falmouth to Rock roadways have been reduced to single lane traffic.

Motorists are being urged to proceed with caution at Daniel Town when travelling along the Rock to Stewart Town main road, as there is a breakaway along a section of the roadway. The road surface is also severely scoured.

The agency also pointed out that motorists should be mindful when traversing the section of the Falmouth to Rock roadway in the vicinity of the Pier as the roadway in that location has been undermined by the sea.
