Florida police reopen murder case against Omar Collymore
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police in Florida have a reignited interest into a decade old murder case following the arrest and charge of Omar ‘Best’ Collymore two weeks ago in Jamaica.
Collymore, who is accused of masterminding the murder of his wife Simone Campbell-Collymore on Stanley Terrace in Red Hills, St Andrew, has piqued the curiosity of US authorities as former girlfriend Angela Aguiar, was also killed in Florida 10 years ago.
According to the Sun Sentinel, Fort Lauderdale detective, Tracey Figone in a statement noted the similarities between the murders of Campbell-Collymore and Aguiar, who was killed on June 30, 2008.
Both women were romantically involved with Collymore, and had insurance policies that listed him as a beneficiary when they were killed.
Collymore collected US$400,000 from Aguiar’s US$1 million policy, with her son, Elijah Aguiar, getting the rest.
Collymore was a suspect in Aguiar’s death, but the Florida police were not able to link him to the murder, the Sentinel further reported.
Aguiar was shot dead about 3:30 am while they both were on their way to meet friends at a bar.
Collymore reported that as they got out of their truck, an unknown assailant approached and shot her in the head and chest. He was not hurt during the attack, as he said he took cover after seeing the gun.
Campbell-Collymore, a businesswoman, was travelling in a taxi in the Red Hills area on January 2, when gunmen opened fire, hitting her and Winston Walters — the driver of the taxi.
Both reportedly died on the spot.
Collymore and his two co-accused were taken to court last Friday and were remanded until February 26 when the case will again be mentioned.
