Commonwealth Games: Blake third in 100m, South Africa takes gold, silver
GOLD COAST, Australia — Jamaican favourite Yohan Blake was stunned by Akani Simbine of South Africa who won the men’s 100 metres in 10.03 seconds at the Commonwealth Games a short while ago.
Simbine stormed through on lane seven ahead of compatriot Henricho Bruintjies in 10.17s, as Blake, the fastest man into the final, took bronze with 10.19s.
Jamaica now sits 19th on the medal table with four medals — two silver and two bronze. Heading the tally are
Australia leads the medal standings with 39 gold medals and 106 overall, with England in second spot with 22 gold among 63 medals. India has 10 gold medals,
followed by New Zealand and South Africa with eight each, while Canada has seven.
