UPDATE: Barbican traffic changes put on hold due to ruptured water line
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that permanent changes to the flow of traffic along Barbican Road, which should have taken effect yesterday, have been put on hold.
The delay, according to Stephen Shaw, manager of communication and customer services at the NWA, is due to technical challenges experienced by the project team, including a major rupture of an underground water line.
The agency did not provide a date by which the issues are expected to be resolved.
The changes, which are to come, will see motorists travelling directly to Barbican Square, at the intersection of Barbican and East Kings House Road, with the ability to make both left and right turns to travel towards Russell Heights or Liguanea.
Left and right turns on to East Kings House Road from Barbican Road will still be permitted. The new traffic flow will not affect access to the Loshusan Complex.
The intersections East Kings House Road and Barbican Road as well as Barbican Road and Birdsucker Lane will be controlled by traffic lights. The Jacks Hill/Barbican Road junction will also be signalised.
