Captain Horace Burrell remembered
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former Captain of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Captain Horace Burrell, who died exactly one year ago today, was remembered by the organisation in a tribute placed in the Jamaica Observer newspaper.
Burrell died in the United States after battling with prostate cancer. He was 67.
He was JFF boss between 1994 and 2003, and again from 2007 to the time of his death.
He was also a senior vice-president of CONCACAF, the region’s governing football body, and a former vice-president of the Caribbean Football Union.
The full-page advertisement, which read “Remembering Captain Horace Burrell” included a portrait of the former JFF boss.
“It has been one sad year since we bade a fond and tearful farewell to one who has meant so much to us: our captain, our mentor, our friend.”
“Today as we reflect upon the enormity of his contribution and magnitude of our loss, we salute our beloved Captain Horace Burrell, who believed in the infinite possibilities of the Jamaican spirit and urged us to reach for the start,” said the memorial tribute.
“He was our inspirational leader. Our country and the game of football are decidedly better because he lived, for this, we are eternally thankful.”
