Police kill St Catherine wanted man
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — The police are reporting that a man they believe to be the leader of the Compound Gang, based in Gregory Park, St Catherine, was fatally shot during a confrontation with lawmen this morning at Portland West in the parish.
According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit, 21-year-old Demar Montague, otherwise called ‘Eddie’, who was wanted for shooting with intent committed against members of the security forces and illegal possession of firearm, was shot and injured when he engaged lawmen in an exchange of gunfire, during an operation in the area.
Two firearms – a .40 Smith and Wesson pistol, a .38 revolver, a magazine and nine rounds of ammunition – were allegedly seized during the incident.
Montague was taken to hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
Police said the matter has been reported to the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
