Demish Gaye wins back-to-back races in Europe

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former national champion and World Championships finalist Demish Gaye won back-to-back men’s 400m races in Poland and Germany last week.

Gaye ran 45.62 seconds to win at the 2024 International Wiesław Maniak Memorial – World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze in Poland on Wednesday and two days later, he won with 45.77 seconds at the Goldenes Oval Dresden 2024 in Germany.

On Wednesday, Poland’s Maksymilian Szwed was second in 45.67 seconds and France’s Fabrisio Saidy was third with 45.74 seconds.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Great Britain’s Efekmo Okoro took second with 46.01 seconds and Loic Prevot of France was third in 46.10 seconds.

Also on Friday, Kadrian Goldson ran a season’s best 10.08 seconds (0.7m/s) for third in the men’s 100m that was won by Canada’s Jerome Blake in a season’s best 10.01 seconds, just off his life- time best 10.00 seconds with Germany’s Simon Wulff third in a personal best 10.06 seconds.

In the heats, Goldson had run 10.18 seconds (1.1m/s) to qualify for the final.

Samantha Hall was fourth in the women’s discus throw with 58.67m as three Germans finished ahead of her — Marike Steinacker won with 63.63m, followed by Kristin Pudenz’s 61.06m and Claudine Vita’s 58.91m.

On Wednesday, Goldson won the men’s 100m at the Polish meet with 10.23 seconds ahead of Great Britain’s Eugene Amo-Dazie in 10.29 seconds and American Pjai Austin in 10.30 seconds.

Jodean Williams won the women’s 100m running 11.43 seconds (-1.0m/s), beating Hungary’s Boglarka Takacs’ 11.46 seconds and Canada’s Sade McCreath-Tardiel’s 11.50 seconds.

Williams was also fourth in the women’s 200m in 23.17 seconds and Candice McLeod finished sixth in the women’s 400m B race in 53.54 seconds.

Yanique Thompson was second in the 100m hurdles in 13.09 seconds and Crystal Morrison finished fifth in 13.44 seconds.
