Investment banker Curtis Johnson and New York University administrator Chelsea Douge celebrated their fairy-tale wedding in paradise, on February 15, 2025, at Borghinvilla in Discovery Bay, St Ann. Surrounded by family and friends, they declared their love and commitment to each other, cementing a journey that began with an undeniable connection.

The pair met each other as business students at Babson College in Massachusetts in 2021.

“The first time I saw Curtis, I just remember thinking, ‘Wow, who is that?’ There was something about his presence — calm, confident, and a little mysterious. He had this mix of intensity and warmth that drew people in. He listened in a way most people don’t. And honestly, his smile? Deadly!,” Chelsea told Tuesday Style Vows (TSV). “But what really stood out to me wasn’t just how he looked — it was the way he paid attention to the people around him, like he genuinely cared.”

Their paths would cross once more at a student union event. Cupid’s arrow was definitely hovering and it was futile feigning indifference. Curtis invited Chelsea to dinner, where she was charmed by his personality and character. She had found her soulmate.

“That night was magic — just the two of us, talking for hours about our values, our dreams, and what we both wanted out of life. I think the moment I realised he was the one was much quicker than you’d expect. It was during one of our deep talks, and he looked at me with so much honesty and vulnerability, like he wasn’t afraid to show who he truly was,” Chelsea said. “That kind of courage? That’s rare. That’s love.”

That love was the force that brought them together, and it was through that love that Curtis proposed to Chelsea in 2023, in a private gathering of family and friends.

“It was thoughtful, romantic, and so us. He gathered our loved ones in this cosy, candle-lit restaurant, and when he stood up to speak, I thought he was just being his usual gracious self. But then he turned to me, got down on one knee, and asked me to spend forever with him. I couldn’t even process the words at first — I just remember tears and this overwhelming feeling of joy and peace,” Chelsea said. “I said yes through the happy-crying.”

The wedding would be just as memorable and emotional. With Chelsea and Curtis both coming from Caribbean backgrounds, it was a given that the wedding would take place in the region. The decision was made to have it in Jamaica.

The stunning venue was further enhanced with white roses, hydrangeas and blush roses by the Borghinvilla team. For her special day, Chelsea wore a white form-fitting off-the-shoulder dress complete with train. Accompanied by her parents, Chervon Charles and Joe Douge, Chelsea walked up the aisle to Adele’s Make You Feel My Love, performed by Curtis’s sister Tamara. Guided by the couple’s best friend, Kellen Harrison, they exchanged vows, publicly declaring their commitment to each other.

The exchange of vows was followed by a lavish banquet. Formalities included the cutting of the wedding cake: A Madagascar vanilla bean cake with satin ice fondant by Weddings by Treatz. Heartfelt toasts followed, among them from the bride’s father, Joe, who stirred the deepest emotions at the reception. “He got emotional talking about seeing me with someone who truly honours and protects my heart,” Chelsea shared.
