Big, Bold & Beautiful Wedding Cakes

Big, Bold & Beautiful Wedding Cakes

Over the past year, we’ve witnessed a major shift in wedding cake styles. Forget what you thought you knew about simple white tiers — 2025 is all about artistry, personality, and a whole lot of frosting. Bold new styles and charming throwbacks are sharing the spotlight, and we’re loving every bite of it.

From statement-making sculptures to cakes that carry secret love notes, here are the top trends set to shape wedding cakes in 2025.

Big Cakes Are Back

Size is officially back in style. After years of subtle and minimal designs, couples are dreaming bigger — and we mean bigger. These towering masterpieces are no longer just dessert; they’re the centrepiece of the reception. Whether it’s a five-tier floral fantasy or a whimsically over-the-top creation, the only rule for 2025 wedding cakes is: Go big or go home.

Wide & Flat or Super Tall — something I think was an unexpected trend. Tall multi-tiered wedding cakes and wedding sheet cakes are stepping into the spotlight. Traditionally kept behind the scenes as back-up servings, wide and flat cakes — especially giant single-tiered cakes — are now being beautifully styled and presented as the main cake.

This trend is practical and chic. Plus, it opens up more room for creative decorating across a single surface — think intricate stencilling, floral spreads, or painted illustrations.

Sweet Messages

Why wait until the speeches to say what’s on your heart? One of our favourite new trends is the inclusion of scripted messages directly on the cake — whether it’s a handwritten quote, a few lines from your vows, or simply your initials in elegant calligraphy. These sweet nothings add a personal and poetic touch, marrying vintage charm with contemporary design.

Vintage Cakes with a Modern Twist

Nostalgia is having a moment, and wedding cakes are no exception. Vintage-inspired cakes, reminiscent of mid-century confections, are making a big comeback. Think buttercream-heavy layers, swirled piping, and soft pastel hues.

Pro tip: If you’re into the retro aesthetic but want something a bit more updated, consider choosing a monochromatic palette — one colour for the cake’s exterior and all its piped embellishments. Just remember: Vintage-style cakes tend to be rich in frosting, so opt in only if you’re a buttercream lover at heart. This décor style is called Lambeth piping — a traditional British decorating style known for its ornate, layered, and over-the-top piped details. It’s cake design with drama, precision, and flair.

For 2025, Lambeth cakes are evolving. We’re seeing exciting combinations like piped embroidery, intricate line drawings, and personalised elements inspired by wedding stationery. These cakes are pure artistry — perfect for couples who want a little extra magic on their big day.

Sculptural Cakes

This trend is perfect for the bold, the modern, and the design-obsessed. Sculptural cakes offer creative freedom and often push the boundaries of traditional shape and structure. One rising favourite? Dome cakes — a sleek, futuristic silhouette with soft, rounded edges and minimal embellishments. These cakes feel elegant, fresh, and incredibly current.

Dramatic Floral and Fruit Décor

Who says cake decorations can’t be delicious? Fresh fruit is taking centre stage as both a flavourful and visual element, often paired with bold florals for a maximalist-meets-nature vibe. Picture glossy figs, juicy berries, or slices of orange nestled between peonies, orchids, and wild greenery. It’s edible art at its finest.

Minimalist Elegance

Of course, not every couple wants a maximalist masterpiece. The minimalist trend continues strong in 2025, with cakes that focus on clean lines, smooth textures, and understated luxury.

Think: White-on-white designs with a single sugar flower, or a satin ribbon bow. These cakes whisper elegance — perfect for refined, timeless weddings.

Final Slice

From towering sculptures to nostalgic nods and message-filled buttercream love letters, wedding cakes in 2025 are anything but boring. Whether you’re a minimalist or a maximalist, there’s a slice of this year’s trends to match your vision — and your sweet tooth.

Because in 2025, cake isn’t just dessert. It’s an experience.

Both as accents and the main event, fruits can bring texture, colour, and zest to your wedding cake tiers, and they offer the chance to step away from the typical floral designs. .

One of our favourite new trends is the inclusion of scripted messages directly on the wedding cake. .

Big cakes are back!.

Minimalistic wedding cakes for the win!.
