Cocktails With – MICHELLE VERNON

Founder and CEO of Body Studio Skincare… A licensed medical aesthetician who specialises in helping people look and feel their absolute best through customised skincare solutions.

Style Observer (SO:) As a noted aesthetician, do you see this as a calling or something that you worked towards and continue to work at?

Michelle Vernon (MV): It’s definitely both. From a young age, I was always drawn to beauty — I remember playing with my mother’s make-up and trying every DIY skincare treatment I could find as a teen. That passion deepened as I got older and led me to pursue formal education in aesthetics. Even now, years into my career, I continue to learn and evolve. Skincare is always advancing, and I love staying ahead so I can offer the very best to my clients.

SO: What are you most passionate about?

MV: Beyond the beauty world, I have a deep love for children. I truly believe they’re shaped by the environments and opportunities afforded them. It has always been important to me to care not only for my own two children, but to give back — whether it’s through charity work, children’s homes, or my involvement as a Rotarian. Uplifting children and helping them have a voice is a passion that’s close to my heart.

SO: Share with us a few career highlights.

MV:I was recognised as one of the top under-40 female entrepreneurs to watch.

I’ve sponsored Miss Universe Jamaica, been cited as a skincare expert in multiple publications, and presented at various schools and seminars. Today, I successfully operate two Body Studio Skincare locations — one in Montego Bay and one in Kingston — where I lead a team of doctors, aestheticians, and nurses. I also mentor and train future professionals in the industry.

One of my proudest moments was launching Body Studio Cosmeceuticals, my own line of targeted skincare products for acne, anti-aging, and brightening. And in the digital space, we’ve gone viral too — one of our
Instagram videos reached over 17 million views!

SO: As you ready for the Beauty Expo in Kingston, what are you most excited about?

MV: I’m excited to connect! There’s something electric about being around people who are passionate about beauty. I can’t wait to share what we’ve been building at Body Studio Skincare, meet new people, and be inspired by the creativity and innovation in the room.

SO: How far would you say women have come in the beauty industry?

MV: We’ve come incredibly far. Women are no longer just the faces of beauty campaigns — we’re the founders, formulators, and CEOs. We’re pushing boundaries, redefining beauty standards, and building inclusive brands. There’s still work to be done in terms of equity and representation, but we’ve made powerful progress.

SO: What is top-of-mind for most when they step into your studio?

MV: People today want to look and feel their best — naturally. Clients are focused on enhancing their beauty while also prioritising wellness. There’s a strong shift toward preventative care and holistic health. Many of our clients are embracing treatments like IV therapy to promote internal wellness that reflects on the outside. It’s about aging gracefully, glowing confidently, and investing in self-care from the inside out.

SO: Which three women (locally or internationally) inspire you? And why?

MV: • Oprah Winfrey – her journey, resilience, and generosity are beyond inspiring. She’s transformed her own story and created space for others to do the same.

• Rihanna – she’s fearless and authentic, and she’s completely changed the beauty game. I love how she leads with confidence and creativity.

• Lisa Hanna – she’s a local force. Intelligent, graceful, and strong, she’s built her place in leadership with purpose and style. A true role model.

SO: How would you describe yourself in a few sentences?

MV: I’m passionate, purpose-driven, and always evolving. I pour love and intention into everything I do — whether it’s skincare, motherhood, or mentorship. At the core, I’m someone who wants to empower others and see them thrive.

SO: What’s currently in the rear-view mirror?

MV: Shrinking myself to fit into a box. Life is multifaceted, and so am I. I no longer feel the need to pick just one title — entrepreneur, mom, wife, friend — I can be all of those things and still make space to grow. I’ve outgrown the idea of staying small and now fully embrace my dynamic, layered self.

SO: Which song is currently playing in your head?

MV:
Titanium by David Guetta. It’s my go-to motivation anthem. Whether I’m working out or powering through a long day, it reminds me that I’m built to endure, rise, and keep going.

SO: How would you describe your style?

MV: Clean, chic, and classy — with just the right hint of sexy. I love solid colours, refined silhouettes, and timeless pieces. My wardrobe is all about quiet power.

SO:What’s your must-have fashion essential?

MV: A tailored blazer — it elevates any outfit and gives instant polish. From work meetings to dinner, it’s the most versatile piece I own.

SO: And your make-up essential?

MV: Lipstick! I can go bare-faced, but a swipe of cherry or bold red lipstick brings it all together and makes me feel confident instantly.

SO: How important is what you wear and how you look?

MV:Very important — but not everything. How you present yourself speaks volumes before you say a word. Style is a form of self-respect and expression. But true beauty comes from within: it’s confidence, it’s kindness, and it’s knowing who you are.

SO: An evening in or out?

MV: An evening out — with a small group of friends or family. Great food, wine, laughter, and ambiance. That’s my version of bliss.

SO: What’s your preferred rum cocktail?

MV: A Mojito made with Appleton 12 — it’s crisp, a little bold, and always puts me in a good mood. The perfect mix.

SO: Finally, what’s your philosophy?

MV: Everything in life is energy. What you think, focus on, and believe in — that’s what you attract. I believe in staying aligned with positivity, protecting my peace, and practising what I want to become. Vision boards, the law of attraction, and intentional living are all a part of how I manifest success. And above all — be kind. It costs nothing but changes everything.
