‘A Taste of Jamaica’ crossed Culinary Shores to Cap Juluca

‘A Taste of Jamaica’ crossed Culinary Shores to Cap Juluca

Cap Juluca, a Belmond Hotel, located on the beautiful island of Anguilla in the Eastern Caribbean, captivated the senses of guests and locals when its “Culinary Shores” series, this past June, got a bold “Taste of Jamaica” curated by Miss Jamaica Universe 1994 Angelie Martin-Spencer.

This activation, which grew from my personal love of Belmond and wanting to just introduce some of the best of my country Jamaica — Rum, coffee and chocolate — to this beautiful five-star property, was seamless and effortless. The synergy and execution between myself, Chef Brian Lumley and Campari Group Deputy Master Blender David Morrison, was flawless and left everyone completely satiated.

The weekend unfolded with a series of culinary events in which guests were introduced to Appleton Estate Jamaica Rums, Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee, and ‘Likkle More’ chocolates.

The weekend kicked off Thursday evening with the hotel’s traditional Champagne sabering hour, in which Chef Lumley and Morrison were introduced to guests and staff who sipped on signature Appleton Estate cocktails created by Morrison, accompanied by delectable bites from Lumley.

This was followed on Friday evening by a four-course Chef’s Table at the hotel’s restaurant Pimm’s, presented by Chef Lumley, paired with cocktails by Morrison, ending with a sweet finish of coffee and rum-infused chocolate bon-bons by pastry chef Nadine Burie of Likkle More Chocolate and a drink of Coffee Traders Cafe Blue Coffee.

This uniquely Caribbean affair took guests on an immersive journey of exquisite island flavours that celebrate the very best of Jamaican gastronomy.

Saturday and Sunday then allowed guests to fully engage in the true barefoot luxury that is Cap Juluca when the events moved to the Cap Shack on the end of the property’s beautiful Maunday’s Bay Beach, for the exclusive Appleton Estate “Sunset Sips” on Saturday night, where they indulged in Morrison’s refreshing Appleton Estate cocktails and delectable bites by Chef Lumley, while dancing to Jamaican beats spun by the guest DJ.

The weekend culminated with a flaming “Pit Fire Experience” that featured Jamaican jerked pork, jerked lamb, roasted fish and conch in foil served with festival and other tasty Jamaican sides.

The evening ended with a soulful musical performance by Mortimer, who had guests swaying and singing in beautiful sync. The excitement was palpable among the guests who got a wonderful taste of Jamaican culture, the flavours and soul of our island, but it was especially a treat for the locals; staff and islanders who over-subscribed the event.

The weekend was flawless, and a perfect end to the tour that started a week earlier on the sister property La Samanna, on French Saint Martin. The Taste of Jamaica was definitely a hit!
