TRELAWNY, Jamaica — Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate for Trelawny Northern, Tova Hamilton, is hoping to build on the work she has done within the constituency over the past five years as Member of Parliament  (MP) if re-elected in the looming general election.

“I have achieved quite a bit, and I think the people will speak on September 3.

My plans continue… we have started to  recover  Trelawny Northern, we have  done quite a bit in road infrastructure, provided more water, free WiFi, lots of community developments… for us, it’s the continuation of a journey,” Hamilton told reporters shortly after she was nominated at Falmouth Courthouse Monday.

She is seeking her second term as MP for the constituency, having defeated the People’s National Party’s (PNP) Victor Wright in the 2020 general election.

She is expected to be challenged for the seat by former PNP Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Western Dr Wykeham McNeill, who was one of the surprise losers for the PNP in the 2020 general election.

Dr McNeill, who served as MP for five terms, was defeated by the JLP’s Morland Wilson, who is not seeking re-election.

Hamilton expressed confidence that voters will again give her the nod of approval and allow her to continue her contribution to the development of the constituency.

“The people are happy with what is happening, it is the first time in over 30 years that they have seen the kind of development that is taking place and I am sure that they want to see it continue,” she argued.
