ST JAMES, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has revealed several plans for the entertainment fraternity in the party’s manifesto launched at its mass rally now underway in the historic Sam Sharp Square, Montego Bay, St James.

JLP candidate for Trelawny Northern, Tova Hamilton, highlighted the planned launch of a one-stop online event permit process, describing it as a game-changer for the industry.

She revealed that the JLP is committed to removing barriers in the creative sector, noting that the party’s manifesto goes beyond promises to concrete plans for building a creative economy that young Jamaicans can access.

“We are serious about removing the chains on the creative sector. And that is why in our manifesto, we’re not just promising — we’re planning, we’re delivering, we’re building a creative economy that every young Jamaican can plug into. It is why we will launch our one-stop online event permit process — a game changer for the industry.

“This is not the party of chains… this is the party of freedom. The time is now—not to prosecute—but to liberate our entertainers, our promoters, our creatives!” she added.

Hamilton outlined several other initiatives in the JLP manifesto aimed at strengthening the entertainment sector, including legal support for creatives, new cultural institutions, special economic zones, creative villages, and apprenticeship programmes. The plans also include expanding the film fund and establishing 24-hour entertainment zones, among other things.

“All of this comes together with one purpose— to make Jamaica a major global event destination,” said Hamilton, who will be seeking a second term in the Trelawny Northern constituency.

“I say to you, the time is now. The youth are ready. The Jamaica Labour Party is ready. The world is waiting. Let’s break the chains, let’s free the culture and let’s show them that Jamaica is the heartbeat of the globe!” she added.
