JAAA names 50-member World Champs team, Thomas-Dodd opts out

KINGSTON, Jamaica  — Ten-time national champion Danniel Thomas-Dodd was the only notable omission from the 50-member team named by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) for next month’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Thirty-two men and 28 women were named along with a 20-member management team for the championships that will be held from September 13-21.

President of the JAAA, Garth Gayle, told Jamaica Observer Online on Saturday that Thomas-Dodd, who holds both national records- indoors and outdoors, had indicated she would not be available.

The two-time global silver medalist- indoors in 2018 and outdoors in 2019 is ranked 14th in the world so far this year with a best of 19.30m.

Meanwhile, Shericka Jackson, one of three defending champions from Budapest in 2023, has been named for both the women’s 100m and 200m, while Tia Clayton,  who failed to make the team in the women’s 100m was named in the 4x100m relays pool.

For the first time, Jamaica will have a full complement of three athletes in a middle distance race as Kelly Ann Beckford, Natoya Goule-Toppin and Adelle Tracey, who will also run the 1500m, are down for the women’s 800m.

Christopher Taylor is part of the team, named for the 200m along with Bryan Levell and Adrian Kerr.
