WhatsApp? I Do

A modern day fairy tale unfolded for Aniece Phinn when she met Melton McKnobb. While their meeting was unorthodox, their love story proved that a little bit of curiosity and good timing can turn a near-miss into a perfect match. The pair celebrated their union on April 17, 2025, at the Registrar General’s office in downtown Kingston.

Their love story started in November 2023. Aniece’s uncle had shared a picture of her on his WhatsApp status, immediately piquing Melton’s interest. He was based in the United States. He asked for her number. Melton made the first move with a direct message but Aneice, based in Jamaica, was understandably cautious.

“I didn’t recognise the number so I asked him who he was and to identify himself. I was hovering over the block button until he explained that he got my number from my uncle and was interested in getting to know me. I was surprised, remained cautious, but curious,” Aniece told Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).

That curiosity quickly blossomed into a deeper interest, and when they met in person in February 2024, it felt as though they had known each other for years. While Aniece had her doubts about a long-distance relationship, Melton was undaunted. His refusal to let distance come between them solidified Aniece’s feeling that he was The One.

“I thought initially that this wasn’t going to work because he lived in a different country. But he was persistent. I think I knew he was the one because no matter the distance between us he never allowed me to actually feel it; he made sure his presence was felt at all times. He made sure I was okay in every way possible,” Aniece said.

Then on February 14, 2025, Melton proposed. Despite a disagreement the day before, they reconciled in a way that was both romantic and heartfelt.

“I was upset with him, so when he called me on Valentine’s Day, I just let the phone ring. I finally answered, and we were in a quiet stand-off on the line. Suddenly, I received a notification that a package had been delivered for me. I was hesitant to check it, but curiosity got the better of me,” Aniece recalled. “When I opened the door, a beautiful bouquet was there from him, with a card that read, ‘Call me when you open this.’ The next words on the card made me burst into tears: ‘Will you be a part of my life forever?’”

Opting for an intimate wedding, they celebrated with their closest friends and family, an occasion made even more special because it fell on Melton’s birthday. For her special day, Aniece wore an off-the-shoulder sheath gown, while Melton looked sharp in a classic blue suit. Aniece’s dad Glenrick and brother Oshane Phinn handled escort duties while marriage officer Percival Palmer, guided them through their vows.

The celebrations continued at Chillin’ Restaurant and Bar where Aniece and Melton shared their first dance to
First-Time by Teeks. The newly-weds honeymooned in Ocho Rios.
