‘Me glad say me vote already,’ says elderly elector
ST THOMAS, Jamaica — Moments after casting his vote on Wednesday, Andrew Davis, fell to the ground at Baptist Lane in Yallahs, St Thomas.
Seemingly unconcerned about his health, Davis, who was using a cane to get around, said he was happy he got to vote.
“Me glad say me vote already, ” he said as he sat on the ground at about 7:40 am, surrounded by the incumbent Member of Parliament and Jamaica Labour Party candidate for St Thomas Western James Robertson and other residents.
As Robertson and onlookers rushed to his aid, Davis waved them off, adamant that he still wanted to be a part of the festivities of Election Day.
“Me nuh ready fi go down. Me wah go pon the road. Me wah see wah gwaan,” he said, moments before he was aassisted into a car.
Robertson described Davis as an institution and pillar in the constituency. He said Davis spent much of his life building bridges in St Thomas Western, and every effort will be made to ensure that his health is in good standing.
Robertson, who has held the constituency since 2002, is up against the People’s National Party’s Hubert Williams aaas Jamaicans vote today to elect those who will form the country’s next government.
