Norman Scott denounces assault allegations as ‘desperate political tactics’

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for St Elizabeth South East, Norman Scott, says he unequivocally denies the “malicious and fabricated” allegation being spread by a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporter, claiming that he assaulted her at the BB Coke polling location on Wednesday.

In a statement, Scott explained that a crowd of JLP supporters converged on him while at the polling location. He maintains that the only physical contact that could have been made with anyone in the crowd was when he was trying to enter the polling station and was being prevented from doing so.

Scott expressed regret that a woman was allegedly injured during the melee and encouraged her to seek the necessary medical consultation.

The woman alleged that Scott slapped her, knocking her glasses to the floor, and then other JLP supporters converged on him, resulting in her having to protect him from them anyway.

“Let it be clear, I stand for peace, respect and the democratic process. I have built my campaign on service, solutions and integrity, not intimidation or violence. The JLP’s attempt to drag my name into this is a sign of panic, not strength,” he said.

Added Scott, “The truth is that St Elizabeth South East is ready for real leadership and positive change. The people have embraced the PNP’s message of progress, and the JLP, recognising this momentum, has resorted to character assassination and lies.”

He called on the JLP to “desist from these dirty tactics and instead, focus on what truly matters — better opportunities for our youth, support for our farmers, improved healthcare, and development that lifts every community in St Elizabeth South East.”

“The PNP and I remain committed to a campaign of peace, unity and progress. No amount of lies will derail our mission to deliver a brighter future for the people we serve,” he said.
