KINGSTON, Jamaica—Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) is extending congratulations to the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and its leader Andrew Holness, on their victory in the recently concluded general election.

“The democratic process has once again demonstrated the strength of Jamaica’s commitment to free and fair elections, and we commend all Jamaicans who participated in this critical exercise of civic responsibility,” JFJ said in a media statement on Friday.

The human rights and social justice organisation said it eagerly anticipates the announcement of the cabinet, which it hopes will reflect the commitment to the JLP’s manifesto promises.

“We are particularly encouraged by the party’s outlined priorities in justice reform, national security, anti-corruption, governance, and plans to address gender-based violence and domestic violence. These areas are critical to building a more equitable and just society, and we look forward to seeing robust action and measurable progress in these domains,” it said.

“JFJ urges the incoming administration to resume the vital work on constitutional reform with strong bipartisan efforts, ensuring an inclusive and participatory process. These reforms should deliver transformative changes addressing state power and authority, accountability to the people, stronger protection for human rights, and entrenchment of key institutions to strengthen Jamaica’s democratic framework. We stand ready to support and collaborate with the government to ensure these reforms are inclusive and reflective of the needs of the Jamaican people,” the organisation continued.

JFJ emphasised that while the JLP’s manifesto provides a strong foundation for progress, the government must explore additional opportunities for transformative governance.

“We advocate for bipartisan efforts in parliamentary committees, including the appointment of opposition members as chairs, to foster greater collaboration and accountability. Moreover, civil society participation in decision-making must be deepened to ensure that diverse voices are heard and integrated into policy development.

JFJ acknowledges the People’s National Party (PNP) securing a significant number of parliamentary seats, contributing to a more balanced legislature. We urge the PNP to engage constructively with the government, promoting strong accountability mechanisms for transparency and responsiveness to Jamaicans’ needs. We also recognise the vital role of third parties in Jamaica’s political landscape, encouraging them to serve as independent voices of oversight, holding both government and opposition accountable,” it said.
