KINGSTON, Jamaica—The Financial Investigations Division (FID) says it is intensifying its nationwide public-education drive to promote public awareness and understanding of financial crimes and the importance of eliminating them from society.

Anchored by the radio series “FID in Action”, the audiovisual podcast “Follow The Money”, and a sustained Money Mule Awareness campaign, the division is packaging practical guidance for citizens, businesses and the regulated sector on how financial crimes work, the red flags to watch for, and how to report suspicious activity.

Recent campaign messages have warned especially young professionals, the unemployed and small business operators not to allow their identities, bank accounts or businesses to be used to move funds, conduct that can lead to criminal charges under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).

FID’s chief technical director, Dennis Chung, said: “Public education is a frontline tool in Jamaica’s fight against financial crime. When people understand the law, common schemes and the warning signs, they are far less likely to be victimised—and far less likely to be drawn into offending behaviour such as fraud, money laundering and money-mule activity. Under this thrust, we aim to turn complex topics into clear, actionable guidance for every Jamaican.

“The radio series and podcast will demystify issues such as scams, cyber-enabled fraud, and asset recovery, thereby equipping Jamaicans to protect themselves and their businesses. They complement the usual flow of FID news and updates from the Department’s official channels,” he said.

The FID’s outreach complements ongoing investigative and inter-agency efforts, and aligns with its legal mandate to inform the public and share typologies and statistics that help prevent financial crimes.

New episodes of “FID in Action” air the first and third Fridays of each month on Nationwide 90FM at 8:20am.

Meanwhile, new episodes of “Follow The Money” are uploaded on the last Monday in each month on the FID’s YouTube channel as well as Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Amazon Music. The “Money Mule” campaign features news stories, digital ads, and town hall-style stakeholder engagements.
