#EyeOnMelissa: Holness to meet with Golding to discuss Jamaica’s preparedness for Melissa
Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness and Opposition Leader Mark Golding are to meet at 12:30 this afternoon to discuss the country’s state of readiness for Tropical Storm Melissa which most models are indicating will directly impact Jamaica as a hurricane early next week.
“At this point there must be a unified position with all the civic stakeholders and all our political stakeholders. I have been in communication with the Leader of the Opposition; we meet today at 12:30. I will give the Opposition a full brief, I’m certain that they will have suggestions which we (the Government) will listen to and take on board,” said Holness.
He was addressing a special press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister Saturday morning. He said if a determination is made, a Zoom call will be made with as many Members of Parliament as possible, as had acknowledged that many of them are now in the field.
“We have already provisioned them with resources to clean drains and gullies, I know many of them are out in the field supervising these works,” the prime minister said.
