MY KINGSTON
Steffan-Chad Haughton
Style Observer (SO): What’s your middle name?
Steffan-Chad Haughton (SCH): Garfield
SO: What’s your Zodiac sign?
SCH: Libra
SO: Describe Steffan-Chad in a few sentences.
SCH: A determined and diverse man who balances being a dedicated businessman with being a good husband, father, brother and friend. No matter what it is that I’m doing, whether it’s business, events, the gym, etc, I always put my best foot forward to ensure that when I look back I can say I gave it my all. I try to instil the same discipline, drive and passion into my daughters as well.
SO: What was your first impression of Kingston?
SCH: The business mecca of Jamaica. When I was younger and would come to Kingston regularly to see family, it seemed like all major businesses had a head office there. We would come to Kingston for Christmas, and to do business.
SO: Are there any changes to that initial impression?
SCH: That initial mindset has definitely expanded. Kingston is a diverse mix of entertainment, culture, night life, business and, of course, great food. The restaurant selection and the event vibe are always top-tier.
SO: Where would you take a first-time visitor to Kingston, and why?
SCH: 1. Broken Plate… always great food and a wide menu variety
2. Uncorked… good brunch vibes
3. Republic Lounge… Good drinks and party setting
4. Taurus Garden… consistently great Chinese food is hard to find.
5. Devon House… many different options from food and drinks to parties, all in one place.
SO: Were you appointed Mayor of Kingston what would get your immediate attention?
SCH: The traffic is absolutely ridiculous and something needs to be done about it.
SO: Driving from Montego Bay to Kingston what are you listening to?
SCH: My music range is a little wide. I’ll listen to 2000s hip-hop/rap today, Masicka, Chronixx and Chronic Law tomorrow and then some Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin the day after that. My Spotify playlist all depends on my vibe. I believe that music is just too diverse to stick to one genre!
SO: Who are your preferred dancehall/reggae artistes?
SCH: Masicka, Vybz Kartel, Chronic Law on the dancehall side. Chronixx, Romain Virgo and Sasco on the reggae side.
SO: Share with us the last book read.
SCH: The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel
SO: What current projects are you working on?
SCH: Elite Conceptz & Solutions always has many projects on the table to expand our offerings and serve our customers better. Some of those projects will bear fruit in 2026 and you’ll have to follow @elite_conceptz on IG to see what is coming! In one of my other ventures, The Fade Room Barber and Male Spa — I would love to expand that brand to Kingston in 2026. For events — Solar Breakfast Party continues to be my top priority so elevating the standards for that brand and what patrons can expect from us in 2026 in new venues with great execution, even more vibes, delicious food. All while we Rave for Charity.
SO: Describe a typical 24 hours for you.
SCH: I wake up at 5:00 am. Head to the gym. Back home to take my daughters to school. Head to the office. Work all day until about 7:00/8:00 pm. Eat dinner with the family and decompress. Do a little more work 9:00-11:00 pm and do it all over again. Unless it’s the weekend then that schedule is very dynamic.
SO: What are your favourite home comforts?
SCH: Sitting peacefully on the couch watching a good movie or stand-up comedy special.
SO: Which cologne are you currently splashing?
SCH: Yves Saint Laurent Y Eau de Toilette
SO: What are you drinking?
SCH: Appleton 12-year-old on the rocks.
SO: What was your last bit of retail therapy?
SCH: New gym clothes — Gym Shark.
SO: Finally, what’s your personal philosophy?
SCH: Pain is temporary, victory is forever. The pain of discipline and learning new things is eventually rewarded with great success. Most people only see the success, they don’t know the struggles of your journey so focus on holding firm in the tough times and great things will come.
