#EyeOnMelissa: UTech suspends classes due to Hurricane Melissa
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The University of Technology says it has suspended all classes with immediate effect until further notice, in light of worsening weather conditions associated with Hurricane Melissa, which is expected to make landfall later Monday into Tuesday.
“The decision has been taken in the interest of the safety and well-being of all students and staff. Members of the university community are urged to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary travel and continue to monitor official updates from the university and national emergency agencies,” the university said in a media statement on Monday.
The university noted that essential support and welfare services remain in place for international students and authorised local residents who have chosen to remain on campus.
