Schoolboy football to resume end of November
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The urban area Manning Cup and rural area daCosta Cup schoolboy football competitions are set to restart late November, Observer Online has been reliably informed.
Both competitions, which had reached the round of 16 stage when games were postponed indefinitely due to the passage of Hurricane Melissa, could restart in two weeks, according to sources.
The plans are to restart both competitions and also to play the Walker Cup and Ben Francis Cup knockout tournaments with a cut off date of mid December set for the season to end.
The ISSA President’s Cup, if it is to be contested, would be played in January 2026, according to sources.
The decision came out of a meeting Sunday between competition organisers Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA), school principals and coaches.
Meanwhile, there was no decision taken on the junior football (Under 14/16) competitions.
ISSA had suspended all competitions on the eve of the storm, including netball, basketball and junior football that had just started.
