KINGSTON, Jamaica— The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has kicked off its Hurricane Melissa Relief Response by delivering care packages and essential supplies to several hard-hit communities in St Elizabeth, including Treasure Beach, Pondside, Carisbrook, and Black River.

The initiative, launched in collaboration with major sponsors Wisynco, Honey Bun, and National Bakery, marks the first phase of the federation’s national recovery effort. Supplies included bottled water and Powerade provided by Wisynco, along with baked goods and other essentials from Honey Bun and National Bakery.

During the outreach, the JFF team visited Treasure Beach Football Club, whose facilities were severely damaged by the hurricane. JFF President Michael Ricketts said the visit represented the federation’s commitment to standing with those most affected.

“As the national governing body for football in Jamaica, we understand that our responsibility goes far beyond the pitch,” said Ricketts. “We must stand with our football family when they need us most. Supporting Treasure Beach FC and the wider community is an expression of our belief that football can and should be a force for recovery, unity and positive social impact. What we’ve started here is only the beginning – together, with our sponsors and the wider football world, we will help Jamaica rise again.”

Treasure Beach FC President Paul Bernard expressed gratitude for the show of solidarity.

“Our club has lost a lot – the field, the lights, even our office were all damaged,” said Bernard. “But this visit from the JFF reminds us that we’re not forgotten. Football has always been a part of this community’s heartbeat, and seeing the Federation here gives us hope that we can rebuild stronger, together.”

The JFF’s broader Hurricane Melissa Relief Strategy is built around four pillars: Community Outreach – delivering immediate supplies and supporting local recovery with sponsors; Regional Partnership – coordinating relief materials with Concacaf, expected after the November 18 World Cup qualifier; Global Solidarity – engaging international football organisations to support long-term rebuilding; and Match-Day Support – dedicating proceeds from upcoming matches to sustain relief operations.

Through these efforts, the JFF aims to demonstrate how the power of football, from grassroots clubs to global partnerships, can help restore communities and inspire national resilience.
