World Central Kitchen On The Rock
Today, the World Central Kitchen team remains on the island, cooking and distributing thousands of meals each day. Two large field kitchens have been set up — one at the Montego Bay Convention Centre and another in Negril — where local cooks prepare stewed chicken, rice and peas, and other comforting dishes, which are delivered to shelters and communities in need.
More than 30 Jamaican restaurant partners and chefs, including Brian Lumley, Gariel Ferguson, and many community cooks, have joined the effort. World Central Kitchen pays these partners for the meals they prepare, helping to keep small businesses and livelihoods afloat while feeding those affected by the storm. The organisation also works with local farmers and fishermen, purchasing ingredients to ensure the relief effort supports Jamaica’s food economy from the ground up.

Local staff at Rockhouse Hotel in Negril prepare 600 hot meals for communities affected by Hurricane Melissa, working shoulder to shoulder on the assembly line.
Negril business owner Canaan Wallace helps set up tents at WCK’s new field kitchen in Negril. After hearing WCK was mobilising in his neighbourhood, Wallace and his girlfriend, Sheina Waller, joined the distribution team. Wallace now serves as fleet coordinator for the Negril kitchen.
The Negril field kitchen is up and running! Chef Oli raises the WCK flag, a symbol of the hope for Jamaican communities impacted by Hurricane Melissa. Each day, the kitchen brings in more resources and support to grow beyond 2,000 meals a day steadily expanding until every area in need is reached.
