McClaren quits as Boyz miss out on automatic World Cup qualification
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Steve McClaren has resigned as head coach of the Reggae Boyz just minutes after the team failed to automatically qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
The national team had a goalless draw with Curacao at the National Stadium which meant they finished second in their Concacaf World Cup qualifying group.
McClaren, who was hired in July 2024, was brought in specifically to lead the team to next year’s tournament. He only managed 11 wins in his 23 games in charge including crashing out the Concacaf Gold Cup group stage and losing to the USA in the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals.
It means Jamaica will now be on the hunt for a new head coach ahead of the inter confederation playoffs in March.
