UTech sets new graduation dates after Hurricane Melissa disruption
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The University of Technology (UTech) has confirmed new dates for its 2025 graduation ceremonies following postponements caused by the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
The ceremonies will now take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026 and Sunday, February 1, 2026 at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium.
Vice President and University Registrar, Marion Brown, said the revised schedule reflects the institution’s commitment to supporting those affected.
“The rescheduled dates took into consideration the need to provide everyone with adequate time to recover and to plan for their attendance,” she said.
Despite the adjustment, the university will maintain its plan to host three ceremonies across the two days.
On Saturday, graduands from the College of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Science and Sport and the Faculty of Law will participate in a ceremony beginning at 9:00 am.
Then at 4:00 pm, a ceremony will begin for graduands from the Joint Colleges of Medicine, Oral Health and Veterinary Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering and Computing, and the Faculty of the Built Environment.
On Sunday, graduands from the College of Business and Management, the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies, and UTechOpen – School of Lifelong Learning and Professional Development will attend a ceremony at 10:00 am.
Graduation rehearsals are scheduled for Thursday, January 29, 2026. Additionally, a photo shoot for graduates in the western region will be held January 23–24, 2026 at the University’s Dome Street, Montego Bay Western Campus.
UTech has encouraged all graduands to visit its official website for registration details and other updates: http://www.utech.edu.jm/academics/graduation.
The university remains committed to celebrating the achievements of the graduating class while acknowledging the resilience shown by its community in the wake of the hurricane.
