Jamaica Food and Drink Kitchen in Liguanea, St Andrew, was the destination last Thursday for the launch of Gallivant, the travelogue and memoir by architect, designer and Creative Director Michelle Simone “SiiM” Clarke. Proceedings, expertly guided by master of ceremonies Charl Baker, included an address by Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, who celebrated the book’s fusion of vulnerable storytelling with engaging adventures and cultural insight.
“This book is a meticulously woven mosaic of poetry, passion and personal courage. It is a work of art that, like its author, is glorious [with] its storytelling, poetry, postcards, and event recipes beautifully packaged, yet fiercely authentic,” Bartlett shared.
Woman of the moment Clarke read an excerpt, affording guests insight into her journeys across 13 different countries which shaped the book.
Formalities over, guests enjoyed samplings of Clarke’s SiiM Simma Scotch Bonnet Pepper Spread as they mingled, grooving to the sounds of DJ Lipz, and securing autographed copies of the book.
Fifty per cent of all proceeds from sales at the launch were earmarked for Mustard Seed Communities.
