Calabar High School spirit filled the air at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Regional Headquarters in St Andrew on Saturday, November 22, as stakeholders, alumni and and friends converged for the Calabar Old Boys’ Association (COBA) Cocktail Party and Awards Ceremony. The event was a tribute to the enduring legacy of the school, celebrating the success of accomplished alumni and instrumental figures to the school. Among the highlights included keynote speaker Bruce James, president of MVP Track Club, who shared his insights on lessons learned while building one of Jamaica’s most successful track clubs. The evening culminated in the recognition of four outstanding people for their dedication and contributions to Calabar — Planning Institute of Jamaica Director General Dr Wayne Henry; physician and COBA Atlanta Chapter President Dr David Anderson; national athletics coach Fitzalbert Coleman; and Calabar High Guidance Counsellor Jennifer Jarrett.
In addition to the main awardees, the event also acknowledged the achievements of other notable alumni, including world 100m champion Oblique Seville and world championship 110m hurdles silver medallist Orlando Bennett, all while collecting vital donations for Calabar’s sister school, Westwood High, to assist in their repairs from damage sustained by Hurricane Melissa.
