Leon Bailey assists in Roma win on return from injury
Leon Bailey returned from injury for Roma in the Europa League on Thursday, marking the occasion with an assist in the Serie A leaders’ 2-1 win over Danish side Midtjylland.
The Jamaican international had missed Roma’s previous three games after hurting his thigh in training, his latest injury setback since joining the Italian side on loan from Aston Villa in the summer.
With Roma leading 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico through an early Neil El Aynaoui goal, second half substitute Bailey helped to seal the win for the home side in the 83rd minute when he expertly set up Stephan El Shaarawy to find the back of the net.
It was Bailey’s first goal contribution for his new club and a big confidence booster for the winger after a frustrating three months spent mostly on the sidelines due to injuries.
Midtjylland pulled one back through substitute Paulinho in the 87th minute, but Roma held on for the win.
