Preemie Foundation to stage inaugural Pedal & Stroll charity 5K on Sunday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Preemie Foundation of Jamaica is set to host its inaugural Pedal & Stroll — Cycle, Run, Walk for Preemies 5K on Sunday, November 30, at the Hope Zoo in St Andrew.
The event begins at 6:00 am with a warm-up session led by Body By Kurt Fitness, followed by staggered starts for cyclists, runners and walkers along a 5K course around the property.
Participants will complete a looped course around the Hope Zoo walking trail. Each participant will receive a commemorative medal.
Founder and chairwoman of the Preemie Foundation, Serika Sterling, said she is pleased to see the initiative move into its execution phase.
“We are excited to stage the first Pedal & Stroll event and to bring our supporters together for a meaningful morning in aid of Jamaica’s preemies,” Sterling said.
“This event plays an important role in raising funds for the Special Care Nursery at the Princess Margaret Hospital, and we remain grateful to everyone who has supported the effort so far,” added Sterling.
Part proceeds from the event will also go to the Mandeville Regional Hospital to support recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa.
Sterling noted that the foundation remains mindful of the storm’s impact on families and healthcare facilities.
“Many communities and hospitals are still managing the aftereffects of Hurricane Melissa. Supporting Mandeville Regional Hospital allows us to assist with immediate needs while also reinforcing our wider commitment to healthcare resilience,” said Sterling.
Pedal & Stroll was first launched in September at the Toyota Jamaica showroom and is being hosted in partnership with the Jamaica Cycling Federation, which supports the cycling component of the event.
Additional activities on the day include a cool-down session after the race and on-site collection of donated items to support ongoing hurricane relief efforts. Patrons are encouraged to take along non-perishable food items and clothing for babies and children.
