Kartel new single not aimed at Masika/Tommy Lee feud, says ‘Skatta’

Kartel new single not aimed at Masika/Tommy Lee feud, says ‘Skatta’

As the ongoing lyrical feud between dancehall deejays Tommy Lee Sparta and Masicka continues to gather steam, producer Cordel ‘Skatta’ Burrell is making it clear that a recent release from Vybz Kartel is no indication that the Worl’ Boss is entering the lyrical battleground.

Masicka and Tommy Lee have been locked in a heated war of words since last week, with a musical clash between the two now entering its fourth round. It is believed that both entertainers have been at odds since Reggae Sumfest back in July, where Masicka boldly declared himself the dancehall G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) amidst Vybz Kartel’s widely-publicised crowning.

Marking the moment as one of disrespect, Tommy Lee, who has since dubbed Masicka a ‘crown clown,’ threw jabs at the Genasyde deejay, whom he believes is making moves on Kartel’s throne.

As the lyrical battle intensifies with both Genasyde and Sparta fans rallying support for their respective artistes, the timing of Kartel’s recent release sparked debate about whether or not the deejay has stepped into the ring, ready to add tracks of his own to the musical exchange.

However, Skatta, who is the producer of the track in question, said the single has nothing to do with the ongoing clash.

“Yesterday me premiere a song with Vybz Kartel named Victorious, and mi just a make a small disclaimer say this song was not done as a response to anything that’s currently taking place in dancehall. This song was recorded March 7, 2025, in a hotel room in Florida,” the producer explained with footage of that recording session.

“That song was done with a purpose, Vybz Kartel was looking at the path that he wants to go, and the plans weh him have, and that’s why it did name Focus at the time, we changed the name to Victorious now.”

While outlining that the track was not intended for the current clash, Skatta went on to share that should Vybz Kartel decide to enter the current lyrical battlefield, he will answer his opponents directly and will not mince words.

“Just a put that out there because unu know when Vybz Kartel respond to things, him respond directly, and that’s not the goal and the mission right now. The man have a greater purpose,” Skatta continued.
Despite Skatta’s disclaimer, some dancehall fans believe that Vybz Kartel should enter the clash.

This after Masicka seemingly took direct aim at Vybz Kartel in his most recent track, Wake Up. In the single, Masicka expressed that Vybz Kartel has no loyalty after ‘dissing’ Bounty Killer following his dancehall surge. It is no secret that in the mid-2000s, Bounty Killer, who played an integral role in Vybz Kartel’s breakthrough, and his Protoje traded insults in an epic lyrical clash which included tracks such as Duppy Killa, Toilet Paper Bounty, Just Mek A Duppy (Vybz Kartel Diss) and Judas (Vybz Kartel Diss).
