Even in a year that brought unexpected disruption, Wendy’s Jamaica continued a Christmas tradition that has become a familiar part of the holiday season at the Wortley Home for Girls.

The brand carried out its annual visit to the home, spending time with the residents and sharing a day centred on connection, care and familiarity during the festive period.

This year’s visit to the Corporate Area-based home carried added meaning, coming just weeks after the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

While the season looked different for many communities, the Wendy’s team felt it was important to maintain a tradition they have honoured year after year, ensuring the girls still experienced a sense of normalcy during Christmas.

Reflecting on the decision to move forward with the visit this year, Tina Matalon, marketing director of Restaurants of Jamaica, said keeping the tradition intact mattered.

“Even with everything that happened this year, keeping this visit on our calendar was important. The Wortley Home is part of our Christmas tradition, and we wanted the girls to still feel that sense of care and familiarity that comes with it,” said Matalon.

During the visit, the Wendy’s team spent time engaging with the girls through conversation, laughter and shared activities, while also treating them to meals and gifts.

The day unfolded at an easy pace, allowing the girls to enjoy the experience without the structure or formality of an organised programme.

Administrator at the Wortley Home for Girls Clerine Smith said the annual visit remains an important part of the home’s Christmas season.

“This visit is something the girls truly look forward to each Christmas,” Smith said.

She added that the value of the visit extends beyond what is brought on the day.

“It’s the time spent with the girls that really matters. Sitting with them, talking, laughing and simply being present makes a difference they carry with them long after the visit ends,” added Smith.

The Wortley Home for Girls has long provided care and support for young girls in need, and Wendy’s Jamaica’s annual Christmas visit has become part of the home’s Christmas season.
