Port of Call x Annaixe

Jamaican costume and production designer Anna-Lisa “@annaixe” Guthrie has had quite the year! The viral Rope dress in January, the Phone Book masterpiece in March, the #ScotiaTicketToTokyo creation in July, the Hyundai Jamaica look for Reggae Sumfest, and securing the YardMas creative director for 2026 in October… Guthrie’s 2025 accomplishments have been no easy feat. And she’s wrapping the year on a high, with another one for the books: A dress and matching luggage made from the iconic Port Of Call Jamaica packaging.

From the designer:

“The inspiration for this piece came from wanting to create an ‘on the go’ look and to completely reimagine the iconic Jamaica duty-free box as such.

“Because the box has such an identifiable structure and can be rather large, some airlines consider it an additional piece of luggage. This, to me, is quite sad because it in itself is such a statement, and it can really only be acquired at one location in the world. The design is so specific to Brand Jamaica, and I’ve seen so many people keep the boxes as a souvenir after their visit to Jamaica, or as a reminder of home.

“Since I started my journey to publicly create these fashion pieces out of unconventional materials, one of the most important messages I wanted to bring across was celebrating Brand Jamaica in any way I can so this collaboration with Port of Call Jamaica fell right in line with that.

“In terms of the actual looks and why unconventional materials… I think I grew tired of the constant conversation around lack of resources when it comes to fashion in Jamaica. While it is important to identify that we do need more support, resources, and structure in our field , I think it is also important for us to look within ourselves and play to our strengths and our unique Caribbean identity. We are a creative and resourceful people inherently, and I think we need to focus on creating and nurturing our own lane when it comes to fashion and art rather than waiting on other entities who don’t share our unique world view to invest in us. Sometimes we have to be the change makers — and we know all too well that people often have to see to believe. I hope people can look at my work and think that their potential and creativity are limitless, and I hope it challenges people to think big, especially designers and artists that may feel discouraged.

“The piece took me about two days to make, and I spent the week of Christmas making, shooting, and editing the final product to go out on [Boxing Day] — a fun and clever idea from Zachry Jones of Port of Call Jamaica.

“I asked my friend and colleague Jesane Jackson (@marz_jackson) to shoot it for me. He has a very unique eye and taste which works out great because we shot it in my living room, another example of not needing much to create magic. After he sent me the edit of the reveal portion, I spent Christmas Day editing the rest of the video and tying everything together to be released the day after.”
