Ivy 23

...For Excellent Food & Service

Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards judge Oneal Johnson reviews Ivy 23

I recently dined at Ivy 23, one of Kingston’s hottest new restaurants, and I’m still thinking about it. The moment you step inside, you’re transported by the vibrant Miami-inspired atmosphere — think: Stylish, pulsing energy that’s absolutely perfect for date night or a memorable evening with friends. The setting alone has you buzzing with anticipation.

But the food? That’s where Ivy 23 truly mesmerises. The menu is a thrilling international fusion adventure, weaving bold Indian and Asian flavours into dishes that feel both familiar and daringly innovative. Every plate arrives like a work of art, and the flavours are nothing short of spectacular. The spice levels dance on the tongue, the ingredients taste impossibly fresh, and each bite delivers that perfect rush of excitement without overwhelming your senses. You can taste the passion in every single dish.

I kicked off the evening with a perfectly balanced Amaretto Sour while my anticipation built. Then came the starters: Succulent red curry shrimp dumplings that practically melted in my mouth, the Wild One flatbread loaded with layers of flavour, and charred corn tacos that had me reaching for more. Each dish was a revelation, building momentum for what was still to come.

For the main event, I indulged in Hakka noodles tossed with tender chicken, impossibly silky house-made breadfruit gnocchi that redefined comfort food, and Sichuan chicken with that addictive numbing spice that kept me coming back for another forkful. Every dish was cooked to absolute perfection, making choosing a favourite feel almost impossible.

The chocolate cake for dessert? Pure decadence! Rich, velvety, and the ultimate finale to an unforgettable meal.

The service matched the food — warm, attentive, and effortlessly sophisticated. Even the restaurant’s name has a charming story: Ivy for the flower, 23 for their address at Lady Musgrave Road.

Ivy forms part of the Tamrind and Saffron resturant chain.

Ivy 23 is open Tuesday through Saturday, 4:00 pm to 11:30 pm, and Sundays, 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
