Jamaica’s All-School team open CASA Youth Classic with 4-0 win
Jamaica’s All-School team kicked off their CASA Youth Classic campaign in Florida with a thumping 4-0 win over Tekkerz on Friday.
Kadean Young of St Catherine High scored twice, in the 8th and 76th minutes, while Excelsior’s Kimarly Scott (50th) and STETHS’ Kaieem Lewis (62nd) complete the rout.
“I think the most important thing was for us to win the game,” Jamaica’s All-School team coach Keon Broderick said.
He added that once his players got accustomed to the astro turf, the writing was on the wall.
“I think the first half started a little bit slow. Most of the boys would not have played on this surface before and it took a while for them to get to understand how the surface was played on and once they made the adjustment, I think they settled in nicely in the game,” Broderick told the Jamaica Observer.
“I think the opponents certainly did well for most of the first half. But because we were in the lead in the second half, it forced them to come up a little bit higher, which led to some amount of space in behind them, which actually gave us some opportunity to make some runs in behind and we asked the boys to make runs in behind and they did,” he explained.
He continued: “As a result, we were able to convert a few in the second half. But it’s a good performance, a performance that we can improve on though”.
Jamaica will face ESP in their second game at the Lauderhill Sports Park at 8:30 pm as they hunt a spot in Sunday’s final. The Jamaicans are the defending champions.
