89-y-o among two charged following discharge of firearm
HANOVER, Jamaica — An 89-year-old licensed firearm holder is among two people charged following the negligent discharge of a firearm at a premises in Cold Spring, Hanover, on January 30.
Charged are the elderly Cleveland Scott and 23-year-old fisherman Joel Parkinson.
Reports from the Lucea police are that about 8:30 pm, Scott placed his Taurus .38 revolver in a sofa inside his house, where it was visible to other people.
It was further reported that Parkinson visited the premises, took the firearm to the upstairs section of the building and discharged three rounds. After discharging the round the firearm was returned to the sofa.
A report was later made to the police, and following an investigation, Scott was charged with failure to secure a firearm, while Parkinson was charged with larceny ofa firearm, unauthorised possession of a firearm and ammunition and discharging a firearm in a public space.
Their court date is being finalised.
