Kingston College (KC) recorded the biggest victory in the second round of the ISSA/Mighty Malt Urban Under-16 football competition with a massive 13-0 thrashing of Waterford High, while St Catherine High’s 6-1 hammering of Jose Marti was the largest win in the Burger King-sponsored Under-14 category in Friday’s opening Round-of-16 fixtures.

Action is set to continue Monday with several teams well-placed to book their spot in the quarter-finals if they manage to secure a second-straight victory and dependent on other results in their respective zones.

On Friday, the high-scoring KC picked up from where they left off in the preliminary round of the Under-16, where they scored 32 goals — the second most behind Excelsior (34) — to pile on the misery on Waterford, who advanced to the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams.

The Marcel Gayle-coached St George’s College were also impressive, brushing aside Hillel Academy 6-1, as they continued their claim on the title.

In other games, defending champions St Andrew Technical blanked St Catherine 2-0, while Excelsior got the better of Haile Selassie 3-1 in their contest. Jamaica College ran out 3-0 winners over Eltham and Calabar edged Jose Marti 3-2 on the road.

Mona continued to impress with a 3-2 victory over Greater Portmore while Wolmer’s tagged St Jago 4-0.

In Under-14 action, St Catherine made light work of Jose Marti to take control of Group 3. Today, they will play away to a St Andrew Technical team desperate to get back on track after their 0-2 loss to Excelsior High, who will fancy getting full points from Jose Marti in their contest today.

Campion College’s 4-0 beating of Camperdown gave them the edge on goal difference in Group 3 over Jamaica College (JC), who edged Dunoon 1-0. Campion will on Monday host Dunoon looking to sure up their quarter-final place, while JC will be hoping to do the same against Camperdown.

Hillel Academy also enjoyed a big win over Vauxhall, coming out 4-0 winners in their Group 2 encounter, while defending champions KC brushed aside Calabar 3-0 in their matchup. KC will today play Vauxhall while Hillel will welcome Calabar. A win for KC and Hillel in their respective games will see them both progress to the next round ahead of a potential group-deciding showdown on Thursday.

Holy Trinity have developed into a dark horse for the title and their 4-0 win over Greater Portmore coupled with Wolmer’s surprising 1-1 draw with Eltham, has left Group 1 in an intriguing position heading into today’s matches.

Trinity will face Eltham today in a critical game that can either see them booking their place in the quarters at the expense of the Spanish-Town based team, who will themselves be looking to throw the group wide open with a win. Meanwhile, Wolmer’s is expected to secure maximum points against Greater Portmore in their game at Mico.
