Dr Carlene Davis-Cowan is basking in her Honorary Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) conferred by the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) at its graduation ceremony on February 1, 2026.

“First and foremost, I give all the glory to God. I am grateful, especially to the fact that I am always looking ahead in what I have to contribute in this God given assignment in my life, whilst others including this renowned and distinguished and honourable institution the University of Technology, would have researched my past, seen what I have done, and choose to recognise me for this, for this, I am truly grateful,” the singer told the Jamaica Observer.

The university recognised Davis-Cowan for her exceptional contributions to music, ministry, and humanitarian service.

She already holds a PhD in pastoral counselling.

The singer is known across the globe for inspirational songs, as well as her humanitarian work ranging from advocacy during the anti-apartheid movement to long-standing outreach with children’s homes, disaster relief, prison ministries, and global health initiatives.

She added that the secret to her longevity is never growing weary in doing good, according to Galatians 6:9.

Davis-Cowan is extending encouragement to the younger generation of artistes who aim to have a long-term career, as well.

“Never give up on your day dreams. Have a vision for your life; vision is powerful. Seek God in finding your purpose. He has a plan for you, according to Jeremiah 29:11, because where purpose is unknown abuse is inevitable. So, don’t abuse yourselves. Aim for the sky and exercise discipline in your life. You are not only doing it for you but for humanity and for the next generation to follow,” she said.

She told the Observer that, along with her husband Tommy Cowan, work is ongoing on new music and promotional strategies for her 2025 album Songs of Zion.
