Police announce safety measures for Gibson McCook Relays

KINGSTON, Jamaica–The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has announced several safety measures that will be implemented for patrons who will be attending the Gibson McCook Relays at the National Stadium on Saturday, February 28.

According to the police, no firearms, knives, ice picks, machetes, firecrackers, aerosol sprays, large igloos, glass bottles, lighters, frozen water or drinks, drugs, alcohol, and umbrellas with pointed tips will be allowed inside the venue.

Additionally, the police said walkways should be kept clear at all times in cases of emergency, and there will be a no-re-entry policy.

Licensed firearm holders are being advised to make alternative arrangements for the safekeeping of their firearms, as no provisions for them will be made at the venue or the Stadium Police Station.

It added that no parking will be allowed on Arthur Wint Drive and Herb McKenley Drive.

Patrons are also being reminded that individuals entering the stadium will be subject to search.

Meanwhile, vendors are warned that vending will not be tolerated outside the designated areas.
